ALOHA and Welcome back to WebSouffle’s Hawaii Five-0 podcast, where we focus on discussing the CBS reboot of ‘Hawaii Five-0, set in beautiful Hawaii.

This week my Hawaiian sister, @WendieJoy and I talk about the latest new episode of Hawaii Five-0, the 18th of Season 2. Entitled, “Lekio” or “Radio” as it’s translated by CBS,  it features special guest stars, Dennis Miller and James Caan, father of Scott Caan who plays Det. Danny Williams.

This week’s topics include:

-Wendie’s always fascinating breakdown of the title of the episode and how it’s more of an adaptation of an English word than a Hawaiian derivation,

-Dennis Miller, the actor – comedian and radio star, the acerbic ranting wit who as Officer808 puts it in his Five-0 Undercover Blog,  gets the ‘Rick Springfield treatment’ in an early and explosive send-off.” Make sure to catch the his funny article, “What We Learned about Hawaii from Hawaii Five-0, Episode 218, “Lekiō” at his blog.

-Cops and why we don’t envy them as parents (ie: Danny and Grace’s heart-to-heart about boys being evil) We also discuss the concept of “artistic license” and how they really don’t make enough to live at the Hilton Hawaiian Resort in Oahu!

-Danno’s shirtlessness (sorry, we HAD to go there!)

-Max’s freak-out after the kidnapping of the dead radio star’s body

-Caan “Squared” The fabulous James Caan appears on the show alongside McGarrett and Danny (his son, Scott Caan) with a performance that is a real Tour De Force. The banter, the laughs, and the nicknames are priceless! Not to mention the addition to the Carguement scenes! (For more about James Caan’s time on the set, see an excellent article written by one of Wendie’s colleagues at the Honolulu Star Advertiser,  reporter Mike Gordon (aka @CrankyDad).

-Wendie elaborates on her Five-0 Redux Blog Post entitled, “Father Figure” and how this was the theme that permeated the episode. Perhaps the Hawaiian word for Father Figure should have been the real title of the episode!

-The lovely end scene filled with Tony Archer offering marriage counseling to McDanno, #cutedannotoes and NY style Pizza that you gotta fold to eat right.

and finally….

WEBSouffle and Wendie do talk about what we term ‘The Elephant In The Room’

-the latest news about Alex 0’Loughlin needing to take a little time off to get his health in order and how much love and support we and his fans all over the internet are sending his way.

For more on that I direct people to my friend Mizzoh’s great website AlexOLoughlinRocks.com to find a good article describing the situation.

“Hawaii Five-0” goes on a short hiatus for the next two weeks, with repeats of two of the more popular episodes from season two. “Mea Makamae” airs March 5, followed by “Ma‘ema‘e” on March 12. You can read Wendie’s reviews of these episodes at her blog, ‘The Five 0 Redux‘ at the Honolulu Star Advertiser’s Pulse Website, linked above.

And the next new episode 2.19, named Ka lele  (“Faith” or “Support”)
will feature Ed Asner reprising a role he played from the original Hawaii Five-0 where Jack Lord’s McGarret (in this case, Steve’s father, Jack) put him in jail and now he is to be released. It will also star Taryn Manning as Steve’s sister, MaryAnn.

Finally, 5-0 fans and listeners, don’t forget to catch WendieJoy’s  Five-0 Redux blog on the Honolulu Star Advertiser’s Pulse website. Its a great way to get your Hawaii Five-0 reviewed with a side order of Hawaiian culture!

Alex O'Loughlin Signs Autographs at SOTB2 in Waikiki, Sat 9/10/11 for the World Premiere of hit drama "Hawaii Five-0's" 2nd Season, picture courtesy of Katherine Huson Finch

Well, an amazing time was had by all last night in Hawaii at the ‘Sunset On The Beach’ Red Carpet Event in Waikiki, celebrating the world premiere of the 2nd season of our favorite primetime drama, the new hit series “Hawaii Five-0”!

I was lucky enough to get to do a little color and commentary with @AlohaBruce at his special UStream Live feed of 3 cameras on the event that his Hawaii-Aloha.com Travel company sponsored. Although it wasn’t the only coverage, it was one of the few with great angles, sound , music and especially glimpses of the stars walking the red carpet at Queens Beach in Waikiki.

Pictures from the coverage, fan interviews  and other fan events arranged by Bruce can be found here at his blog  as well as this SOTB 2011 Picture Gallery!  Here is a link to archived videos from the Live stream so you can experience the excitement for yourselves!

Mahalo, and  Check back soon!

The 6th episode in our Summer Hawaii Five-0 blogger series is with Mizzoh, who I had the pleasure of  Skyping with from Europe, this time from Holland. She is the talented webmistress & author of  the very extensive and informative blog, “Alex O’Loughlin Rocks!”, the web’s most comprehensive and up to date Alex O’Loughlin site. I myself consider it one of the most thorough blogs about Hawaii Five-0 even though the focus is on Alex. Mizzoh also just launched an all-video page for the website which you can directly link to at http://alexoloughlinvideos.com/.

Mizzoh and I talked not only about what you can find on her site and it’s origin, but of course we talked about Alex O’Loughlin’s career and what led up to his role in Hawaii Five-o. We discussed his acting training,  different acting gigs and what he’s done with the character of Steve McGarrett. Mizzoh was extremely well-spoken and wonderful to interview.

When the new season starts back, you must definitely not miss her weekly AOLR Wrap Ups, for everything that happened in Hawaii Five-O and Alex news, as well as her summarized listings of the best of the recaps. She has done the hard work for you in finding the best of those to read! You can also find Mizzoh at her email mizzoh@alexoloughlinrocks.com and on twitter at @AOLRocks as well!

I hope you will enjoy listening to her here and discovering her fantastic website  AlexO’LoughlinRocks.com !!!

Mahalo as always for listening and Aloha until next time!

Correction: I incorrectly stated in the podcast introduction that this was Summer Interview Series episode # 5, but it is actually # 6. The Hawaii In Vermont Podcast Summer Interview Series #5 was the one I did with actor Will Yun Lee, who plays “Sang Min” on Hawaii Five-0.

In this repost we discussed the final episode of Hawaii Five-0’s first season entitled, Oia’i’o or “Truth.”

Our special guests were blogger, Wendie Burbridge of the Honolulu Star Advertiser’s Pulse Blog, Five-0 Redux and Officer808, blogger for the 50Undercover.com blog.

Both are friends of the show and were featured here on this blog in our “Hawaiian Bloggers” Series a few months ago. Both have extremely popular and fascinating blogs which give us the kind of insight into Hawaii Five-0 that you will find nowhere else on the the Internet, and I highly recommend you become fans of their sites. Highlights of our 10th show:

• ‘Danny/Rachel’ developments,

• Morality & Truth of our characters

• What we think the future holds for our team next season!

Things you’ll hear about in the podcast:

-We needed to find or create a Hawaiian word for “Yippee Kai Ay! We got a Second Season!” (I’m not pronouncing it if we do find one!)

-Sand Island is romantic. NOT! Not the first choice for telling someone you love, you’re gonna have their love child.

-Wo Fat conspiracy theories are floated.- I come up with a theory for how the writers might get Danny and Rachel outta this mess! (It’s my theory and I’m sticking to it!!!)

-We got Locations thanks to 3DHawaii.com and Actor Info from Ryan Ozawa’s NonstopHonolulu.com preview for the episode.

-We also get a great piece of trivia (again, Thanks to listener, Bill!!!) about one of the character actors in the finale, who is a friend of Scott Caan. He appeared in a play about 9/11 that Scott wrote, and has a connection to one of my favorite character’s in “Lost”, Mark Pellegrino!

Please “Like” our Facebook.com/alohavermont page (or you can click the ‘Like’ button above) too! We would greatly appreciate any comments you could leave for our podcast at iTunes.

We need to get an idea of what everyone thinks about it and give good recommendations for others who are looking for a podcast of our favorite show!

Finally, don’t forget to leave Feedback here at our blog and subscribe to it if you haven’t already so you will receive updates on all the new podcasts we record during the summer hiatus (aka “hellatus”;)

Thank you for listening and ALOHA!

I know, it’s not new, but I loved the posters made from this shoot and thought some of you might not have seen the video of our cast clowning around in all that water. It’s cute, hot and funny and you can read more about the shoot here! So enjoy! Scott even cracks a smile! Aloha!

Welcome to the 1st episode of our Summer Interview series! In today’s show, I interviewed Gaby, aka @H50Germany. She lives in Vienna, Austria and is one of the founders of a large fan community serving Germany and other international fans of many cult American TV series, just recently including the new Hawaii Five-0 tv series.

Gaby, also known as @angelinchains67, is a amateur photographer and creates a lot of fan art, wallpapers and music videos. One of these pictures for the H50 finale caught the eye of Hawaii Five-0 producer, Peter Lenkov who commented on it to her on Twitter. This eventually led to a great exclusive interview with Peter which you can read here!

Our discussion covers a lot of ground and I think fans will find it fascinating! Topics Include:

  • How she started the fansites and her love of the show Supernatural.

  • How she creates her fanvideos.

  • Alex o’Loughlin’s role in the series “Three Rivers”, how good that series was and why it probably didn’t last.

  • Her interview with Peter Lenkov and how she formulated questions he would respond to.

  • What International fan members think of the ‘bromance’, ‘carguements’ and of Agent Jenna Kaye.

AngelInChains fan community is made up of many sites and caters to more than just one fandom having primarily started as a fan site for the cool American TV Series, Supernatural.

The primary web address to get to all of the information about our series as well as many other american tv cult series such as Vampire Diaries, True Blood, etc. can be found at her portal, angelinchains.com

Her sites originally were founded to promote Supernatural, but you can also find news, info and links in German and English for other series as well.  They are trying to build an audience to support our show over there so lend them your support by visiting the sites!

One of  best of Gaby’s sites for our show is SerienNews where you will find the latest dedicated Hawaii Five-0 News and a link on the sidebar to their gallery of pictures.

Here is some background on the sites from Gaby:

“My BF is the webmaster of these sites and administrator. He is responsible for the technical part, make things working. I’m part of the team consisting of 3 mods and two news mod, I’m one of them. Therefore providing the site with the latest infos on TV-shows but also on other things – like what happens around the world. But ususally we get input from all our members. They’re also providing us with pictures.

www.angelinchains.com was the “Mother” of the sites.  We host more than 10.000 pictures so far on this site. Including pictures of Conventions, HQ Screencaps of Supernatural Episodes and my FanArts. angelinchains.com was launched in 2008 and has more than 200.000 hits so far (5/2011).  Last year in July we decided to get online with a fanforum www.mycoven.com …we started with a multifandom community. We’ve about 300 members so far, still growing. … I represent the community on Twitter and Facebook. I’ve learned a lot as being part of the Supernatural fandom – very active in supporting the show, spreading the word etc. And that’s what we want to do for H50 as well.”

It was great having Gaby on and I look forward to having more great discussions with her and doing some reviews as well on future episodes of “Hawaii In the Vermont”

Mahalo for listening and Aloha from Vermont!
